A FULL LIGHTING SCHEME FOR WOOLFOX LUXURY HEALTH & FITNESS
THE BRIEF
Fritz Fryer were approached by Woolfox’s creative director, Holly, in 2021 while exhibiting at Design London. Holly visited the FF stand in search of a lighting scheme for their new build – a luxury lifestyle & leisure resort, based in the beautiful countryside of Stamford. After meeting and discussing with Fritz Fryer Director and Designer, Simon, Holly felt confident in enlisting the design team’s help to create a complete lighting scheme for the new build. The overall proposed look and atmosphere of the space was distinctly Scandi and calming, therefore the lighting throughout the scheme should reflect and enhance this.
THE LIGHTING SCHEME
This commercial lighting scheme consisted of three site visits; Simon first visited the building site in December 2021. Upon arrival he was given the floor plans for the build, on which he began sketching initial lighting ideas for each space as he walked around the site and visualised how it would look.
The annotated floor plans were then brought back to Fritz Fryer HQ where Millie – another member of the design team – and Simon reviewed the initial notes and sketches and began to make the necessary alterations to perfect and refine the lighting scheme.
This project would require a lot of practical task lighting – therefore this scheme did not only specify Fritz Fryer lights but also products, such as LED tape and spotlights, from other reputable companies such as Astro Lighting and Collingwood. GU10 fittings were also specified for this project, which offer a reliable and maintainable system, with the flexibility to alter specifics such as colour temperature in the future, without the need to involve outsourced professionals.
Simon and Millie completed a revised and detailed lighting scheme which covered all details, such as product specification and product location, as well as colour temperature and lumen output. This highly detailed plan was then taken back to the Woolfox site, where Simon walked Holly and her team through the entire scheme.
Simon then returned to Fritz Fryer with some subtle revisions that had been discussed and agreed during this second site visit. Millie was instructed to make the tweaks to the overall scheme and created V2 of the lighting scheme which highlighted the revisions in red. Once this had been completed, the final lighting scheme was sent to creative director Holly and confirmed, from this it was then put out for tender for electrical contractors.
THE FINISHED PROJECT
The project was completed in December 2022 and the Woolfox team were clearly very happy with the results of the lighting scheme! Each Fritz Fryer light that was specified for this project was included to suite specific purpose. The two Ribbed glass Wellington pendant lights above the reception desk create an attractive and eye-catching feature for guests as they enter, while the natural Wicker pendant lights used within the fitness studios add to the calming ambience. The Upton contemporary bathroom wall lights are a practical and pretty addition above bathroom mirrors throughout the building.
