What types of ceiling lighting are there?
When you think of ceiling lights, you likely imagine a delicate pendant hanging from the ceiling. However, there are also modern clusters and traditional chandeliers to choose from. Explore our range of ceiling lights, all handmade in the UK.
Which ceiling lights are best?
The answer to this will depend on several factors, including the location of the light, the purpose of the light, and the level of light that is needed.
Kitchen
In the kitchen, spotlights are often used to add practical light, however they lack any decorative impact in the room. Adding striking ceiling lights over the kitchen island or dining table will offer some visual impact and another layer of light. A mixture of different light sources will give you the perfect atmospheric balance and eliminate dark spots.
Bathroom
Ceiling lighting in a bathroom is a practical lighting solution, and extremely popular hung either side of the mirror. Lighting for the bathroom must have the correct IP rating for the zone that it will be included in. Our bathroom lighting collection is IP44 rated, and therefore suitable for use in zone 2.
Bedroom
Overhead lighting is a popular choice for bedrooms, and ceiling lights are a decorative choice. In Edwardian times, the corner of a bedroom was the favourite spot for a rise and fall light fitting, which can be lowered to provide direct light over a dressing table. If you are looking for decorative, unique and practical bedroom ceiling lights, why not check out our incredible range of antique ceiling lights.
How to position your ceiling light
The height of your ceiling plays a big part in the process of selecting your ceiling light. As standard, our hanging ceiling lights come with 1m of flex cable. This can be shortened on-site or lengthened upon request. Keep in mind the recommended 2.1m distance between the floor and the bottom of the fitting when deciding the length of your ceiling light.
Statement lighting is a great way to light a space with high ceilings. Installing eye-catching statement ceiling lighting eliminates the possibility of the light losing its impact within the space.
Multi light ceiling lights can help to fill the space and offer multiple sources of illumination, so as to fill the area with beautiful light. We have a selection of clusters available as standard, and using our lighting design service we can create vast and exciting fittings to elevate your high ceilinged space.
For those spaces with less ceiling height, there are many options available. Firstly, our hanging ceiling lights can be shortened so that they can be a safe distance from the floor – avoiding the possibility of guests banging their heads on them.
Flush ceiling lights are a great idea for areas with low ceilings. Our Grafton flush mount fitting is a stylish option and comes in multiple glass types and metal finishes, including brass, bronze, nickel and antique brass as standard.
