How to pick pendant lighting?
Selecting your pendant light fixture can feel a little daunting with the endless amount of options out there. Having a clear purpose and location for the light will help you narrow down your search.
Purpose
To ensure the pendant light you choose provides an adequate amount of light, you must first decide its purpose.
If you decide it will be more of a decorative pendant light, consider the overall atmosphere of the space and how the light could enhance it. Introducing vintage, antique or glass pendant lights with a decorative bulb creates an decorative focal point within a room. A central pendant in a lounge or living room helps create a wonderful ambience while you sit back and relax.
For task lighting, a metal pendant light combined with a brighter bulb will direct light more efficiently to the spot it is needed, for example over a desk or workbench.
Location
Location is equally as important when deciding on your preferred pendant light.
Lighting must adhere to specific rules in spaces where a water source is present, and therefore any pendant lighting in a bathroom or kitchen, within zone 2, must be Ip44 rated. We have an incredible range of glass pendant lights that are safe for this environment.
This style of lighting can be great for introducing a lot of light from a singular electrical point, through the addition of a multi pendant light.
Can pendant lights be shortened?
In a heavily used area, consider whether the hanging pendant light may be in danger of being knocked or hit. Our pendant lights come at a standard 1 metre long. However, if you are in need of a short pendant light for a room with a low ceiling, they can be easily shortened upon application.
