Rococo

Rococo is a decorative and well-known style of lantern. It is recognisable for its flamboyant curved details that are typically made in a guilt finish.

This particular style is often seen in the grand reception area of a period building.

Stained glass

Stained glass lanterns are made from various pieces of coloured glass arranged to form a pattern or image. They can be a very pretty addition to a home, as the stained glass emits a gorgeous and unique glow when lit.

This style of lantern is particularly popular in a hallway, creating an inviting atmosphere.

Vaseline Glass

Vaseline glass lanterns are a very sought after style of antique light. They were once made by adding a very small amount of uranium to the glass, giving it a green hue. Although owning vaseline glass is completely safe, this practice is no longer used and this makes the amount of lights made in this style limited.

Under a black light, vaseline glass glows an incredible green!

Hexagonal

This is a very common style of lantern, available in both modern and antique options.

Hexagonal lanterns come in many sizes, metal finishes and with various styles of lamp holders. These are an ideal choice if you are looking to source multiple antique lights that look similar, or if you require a certain metalwork to coincide with your interior.

How to choose a lantern?

Knowing where you will put your lantern is essential for deciding which you should choose. If you’re lighting a decorative entrance hall, why not try including a beautiful rococo or hexagonal lantern? Or, if the space is intended to be cosy, why not try including a dainty vaseline glass lantern?

If the lantern light is intended to be used where direct weathering is a possibility, we have a selection of external lantern lights that are sure to create an impact in an outdoor space.

Choosing a lantern light based on size should be dependent on the space you are lighting. If you’re lighting a large area, such as a grand entrance to a hotel or large porch, larger lanterns will help fill the space and ensure it has enough light.

Alternatively, if it is a smaller space, such as a dainty pub porch or a smaller farmhouse kitchen, the use of a small lantern will be proportionate to the space and not overwhelm it.
