We have a large selection of modern and traditional wall sconces. All of our wall sconces are designed and restored in our onsite workshop in Herefordshire, using high quality brass components sourced from around the UK.
There are a number of benefits to choosing a sconce fitting and discovering these may help you decide the perfect sconce for your home!
Whether you are lighting a boutique hotel or a sitting room, including sconce wall lights in the lighting scheme is a fantastic way of exuding style through lighting and creating a cohesive space. In a modern barn conversion, an antique brass wall sconce looks gorgeous alongside the aesthetic and tones of exposed beams. Alternatively, the addition of a glass wall sconce in a restaurant will add to the ambiance of the space.
Wall sconces are an important addition to a lighting scheme. Not only are they decorative, they are also essential for providing an additional source of light within a room. They are great for task lighting in areas where additional light is needed, such as lining the walls of the kitchen counter where pendant lights are not an option. This will make the area safe and bright enough to cook meals.
In a space with high ceilings, they can work alongside other lighting features, such as pendant lights, to layer the lighting.
Wall sconce typically refers to an antique fitting that would have originally been lit by candles, therefore it would only have been able to face upwards. Now, however, wall sconces are lit using electricity yet decorated with candle sleeves to imitate a candle. To look visually correct, the light would need to face upwards.
We do understand that some people refer to all wall lights as ‘wall sconces’, which can be installed pointing upwards or downwards!
