The Brief
We were approached by the delightful owners of Leonards at 39, a beloved local cocktail bar and restaurant in Hereford, to help with the overall lighting scheme of their new restaurant. They were undertaking a complete fit out and refurbishment, and as a former interior designer co-owner Charlie had a really good idea of which she wanted to create, essentially, a sumptuous cocktail lounge. The brief asked for a speakeasy-style lighting aesthetic that would compliment the beautiful, retro interior design of the space.
The Design Process
With the brief in mind, our lighting design Simon noted that lighting placement and colour temperature was essential to creating the right ambience. Towards the back of the restaurant there is a fabulous double height glazed lantern section from which we ambitiously wanted to suspend a 19 way Hereford smoked glass cluster chandelier.
Elsewhere in the restaurant, ceiling heights were generous and provided us with the opportunity to specify 3 way Hereford clusters above the tables within the window bays, which would look great from both outside and in.
We achieved the concept of layering by using 5 amp sockets for lamps, wall lights, picture lights and discretely placed LED strips.
Upon approval of the scheme we met again in our showroom to consider products, and they loved the proposed scheme and the products we had selected.
The project took approximately 8 months to complete, from the beginning of the first fix electrical work, through to the second fix installation.
The task of light Leonards was delivered exactly as per plan, and the end result was really something special.
Where did inspiration come from for this project?
The client had a clear vision of what they wanted ,which fortunately aligned with the Fritz Fryer aesthetic. Because they liked our style and collection of fittings they were very happy for us to propose any of our lighting range.
We highly recommend the Pornstar Martini’s at Leonards at 39. In fact, we have used Leonards for everything from staff Christmas parties, through to casual business meetings. It was a great project that we still feel very proud of.
